Get the SOLIDWORKS Skills You Need!

3D modeling is more than just knowing the commands. You need to experience shortcomings of one approach and the benefits of different method. As you do you begin to build a foundation of best practices. In fact, a good portion of SOLIDWORKS users have learned to use the software by this trial and error approach.

The problem with this is it takes a long time (sometimes years), and your models suffer. You have to rebuild your models several times before they become structurally sound and editable. In fact the arsenal of models you've created become suspect.

Our courses cut through this process to teach you how to create bulletproof models and assemblies. We know that you need to know why you would use one method over another. So we show you several methods of performing the same task while you learn the benefits and shortcomings of each method.

This gives you a toolbox of skills to choose from and you'll know which tool to use for specific cases.

SOLIDWORKS Training Beyond the Commands!

Our SolidWorks training courses don't just show you how the commands work, they give you the skills you need to use them effectively.

You know that 3D-CAD is supposed to increase your productivity, but in order to do this you need to know the details about how the commands work. More importantly you need to know effective ways of getting your work done.

Our courses strike at the heart of this problem by showing you how to be effective. You start with the basics and progressively build a strong understanding of how the commands work as well as how to use them effectively. This will help you maximize your productivity and the quality of your work.

Are you ready to go beyond the commands?

Professional Modeling

The first SolidWorks training course in the series isSolidWorks 2019: Professional Modeling. It teaches just what the name implies. You'll learn practical ways of working with SolidWorks in a professional and structured manner. Specifically, you'll learn best practice methods of creating bulletproof models.

You'll learn the basics through an extremely advanced level of skills. So beginner and advanced users should start with this course. It provides founding skills of best practice that are used in subsequent courses.

The Professional Modeling course starts by showing the basics. You'll learn how to work with sketches, and then you'll begin working with feature tools like Extrude, Revolve, and Cuts. Once you have these concepts under your belt you begin working with advanced feature tools like linear and circular patterns, sweeps, and lofts. All the while you will compare these commands to similar commands in the 2D sketch environment. The goal at this point is to show you that you can use different commands to create the same features. It also demonstrates that which commands you choose will determine the ease or difficulty of editing the model later.

As you proceed further into the course you'll learn how to use more advanced commands like the Hole Wizard, Mirroring Features, Mounting Bosses and Ribs. You'll practice adding draft, using the Boundary command, and many more advanced concepts and commands.

By the time you finish this course you will have a strong understanding of best practices and sound procedures for using SOLIDOWORKS to create professional models.

With over 7.0 hours of video instruction, the Professional Modeling course is all you need to build a strong platform of skills. You'll also use these SolidWorks skills in subsequent courses.

Advanced Parts & Assemblies

The SolidWorks 2019: Advanced Parts & Assemblies course is the second course in the series. It expands your knowledge of solid modeling to include faster and more advanced methods. It covers the details of creating assemblies and shows several advanced methods of creating them. By the time you finish this course you will be an advanced modeler.

It starts by showing you how to work with materials and how to create your own custom materials. As you might have guessed, materials are an important aspect of your models and assemblies. Controlling materials can make your models look more realistic. Materials are revisited throughout the course to help you excel in this area.

Most 3D models use standard threads on their models, which is simply a 2 dimensional image wrapped around a cylindrical feature. It really doesn't look like a real 3D thread. You, however, will learn how to create 3D helical threads. It takes just a little longer than 2D image threads, but it really makes your models stand out.

You'll also gain an extensive insight about configurations. Configurations are used to create different versions of a part. For example a cast part becomes a completed part after it's been machined. So there are two phases in producing a cast part. First it's cast, and then it's machined. You can create a cast configuration complete with its specifications, and then create a machined configuration from the cast configuration. Each configuration will have its own specifications and created in the shortest time possible. This course shows you how this is done.

Design tables are also powerful tool used to create part generators. Excel worksheet can be used to generate an entire family of parts and all you need to do is construct one part. There are an endless number of benefits you can achieve using this tool.

If you're a guru with mathematics you can also use equations to generate features. This requires some basic knowledge of algebraic equations, but it's covered in this course. It's also shown in a way that simplifies the process so most modelers will learn to enjoy using equations to control features.

Weldments are also covered. You'll learn how to customize joints in a frame member, add gussets and caps, as well as weld beads. This course covers it all while showing best practices and sound procedures.

All the standard and advanced mates are covered in detail. You'll practice using each one while exploring their strengths and weaknesses. Each step of the way you'll learn best practices for creating robust assemblies.

Assembly and design strategies are also covered in detail. You'll practice creating assemblies using bottom up and middle out design strategies. You'll create assemblies from single part files using top down design and multi-body modeling. You'll also practice using hybrids of each strategy.

By the time you finish this course you will know advanced methods of creating models and assemblies. You'll have practiced using sound practices and procedures, and you truly understand what it takes to create professional models and assemblies.

Mechanical Drawings

The SolidWorks 2019: Mechanical Drawings course shows you how to create professional mechanical drawings from the components and assemblies constructed in the first two courses. All the commands associated with 2D drawings are covered in detail.

Learn how to create custom title blocks that automatically fill out information about the part or assembly in the drawing. Create custom borders, custom sheet formats, custom revision tables, custom BOMs, everything you need to create professional drawings. Also learn tips and tricks that will help you speed up your work and simplify drawing creation.

The course starts by showing you how to use existing drawing templates and sheet formats. You'll practice the fundamental construction of drawings using standard methods. This portion of the course is short because you'll quickly begin learning about concepts that will prepare you for creating your own custom templates.

You'll learn how to setup drawing borders so that they print correctly. Typically drawings don't print the way you see them on your screen. So you need to make adjustments to drawing borders that sync your drawing templates with your plotter or printer.

Once you've adjusted your border your ready to begin customizing it to meet your needs. This will be done for A, B, C, and D size drawings. You'll also create a common title block used on all sizes as well as custom revision tables, part tables, BOMs and all table types.

While your title blocks will automatically fill in, we also show you how to use the Property Tab builder to add customizable values to your drawings. Customization is the key focus of what you'll learn in this course.

Let's not forget the tools SOLIDWORKS has to work with within the drawing environment. You will practice creating all the view types like section views, auxiliary views, detail views, broken views, isometric and exploded views. You'll practice adding driven and driving dimensions, and learn best practices for adding dimensions. All dimensions types are covered with detailed description of each setting.

This course is packed with tips and tricks to help you streamline your drafting, improve your accuracy and efficiency, and it shows you how to build professional mechanical drawings.

Sheet Metal Design

Watch this course and you'll be creating bulletproof sheet metal models and assemblies before you know it. The SolidWorks 2019: Sheet Metal Design course shows you how to setup your sheet metal settings to streamline your work. You'll practice using all the commands while exploring advanced design processes like bottom up and top down design. You'll use multi-body modeling practices and much more. This course is a must see.

You'll start by using a few sheet metal commands to create various shapes. Each command is explained in detail while you practice changing all the settings. The instructor will change a setting and show you how it affects the model. He'll also explain how one setting or command makes the model easier or harder to edit later. You'll also practice creating models in different ways to understand how one method is better than another.

Once you've been introduced to a few commands you'll begin working with sheet metal settings. Sheet metal settings control how a model unfolds to create a flat pattern. So it's critical to have a clear understanding of how sheet metal settings work and how they affect flatter patterns.

After you understand the details of sheet metal settings you're ready to begin creating basic through complex sheet metal parts. You'll practice advanced methods of using the commands as well as bottom up design strategies. Next you'll practice using top down design strategies and compare top down to bottom up. Ultimately you work with a hybrid of both design strategies.

This course also extends the concepts developed in the Mechanical Drawings course to include sheet metal drawings. You'll practice adding both the folded and flat pattern to drawings. Practice changing the color, weight, and style of bend lines, and you'll learn how to control bend callouts.

It's packed with tips and trick that will help improve your sheet metal modeling.

FEA Made Simple

Learn how to leverage SolidWorks 2019 FEA using simple to understand training. The SolidWorks 2019: FEA Made Simple course uses easy to understand mathematics and stress analysis concepts to explain the complex behavior of FEA studies. If you understand basic algebra you can understand FEA.

This doesn't mean you won't be able to use the full power of SolidWorks FEA. In fact, you'll be able to leverage the full extent of the module that comes with SolidWorks Premium. With this powerful tool you'll be able to perform stress and deflection analyses and confirm their accuracy with simple math and a few tips and tricks taught in this course.

One of the key features of this course is the use of simple models to explore complex concepts. For example, it's easier to focus on notch sensitivity when the model is a simple beam with a sharp corner. Calculations on a simple beam are simple. That's way they call it a simple beam. You'll use simple math to calculate stress on the simple beam, and you'll see how stress rises in the sharp corner. Of course we show you how to setup your study to analyze the stress in the sharp corner, but the point is the focus of your analysis will be on the corner and not the complexity of the model. This helps you learn the specific concept.

That doesn't mean you won't be able to work with complex models. When you master the skills taught in this course you will be able to break complex models into simple to calculate steps. SOLIDWORKS has no problem pumping out a number, but you need to be able to confirm that it's correct. By breaking complex models into simple calculation steps your portion of the analysis will be easy. You'll understand what to do because this course will show you how.

The FEA Made Simple course dives deep into the FEA module explaining how meshes and mesh elements work. This leads to understanding notch sensitivity and how to deal with it. From knowing all the different types of stress and how to apply them to fundamental concepts, this course shows you what you need to know to productively and accurately use FEA.
