Inventor Templates Standard and Custom - Page 2

By David Melvin, PE, TEDCF Publishing

If you open the folder in Windows Explorer you will see the standard templates and custom templates if you’ve created them.

Inventor Templates Standard and Custom tat68-3

The templates on the root of the Templates folder named Standard are the templates used in the dropdown list. These are the Standard.dwg, Standard.iam, Standard.idw, Standard.ipn, and Standard.ipt templates.

The Workaround
If you want to use your custom templates in the drop down list replace the standard templates with your template. You’ll just need to rename your templates to Standard and save them on the root of the Templates folder.

Important Recommendations
I recommend that you save the standard templates that ship with Inventor in a folder so that you can undo your changes if you need to. Do this before you save over the files.

I also want you to know that I do not use this practice. I prefer setting up my custom templates in subfolders within the Templates folder and accessing them using the New Document command.
